CHAPTER FOUR

4.1 REGISTRATION

a. Every Set shall be registered in the records kept by the National Secretary.

b. Every member of the association shall be liable to pay a membership fee in the sum of N3,000 or such further for the time being stipulated by the BGM and certified by the National Secretary.

c. it shall be the duty of all branches to collect all monies due to the association from its members and remit N55,000 of all sums collected to the association’s bank account as advised by the National Financial Secretary.

d. The members in (4.1c) above are members from Class 2005 to Class 2025.

e. Every graduating student of the association from Class 2026 shall pay its alumni levy at the time of graduation at the Alumni Secretariat.

f. Without prejudice to all existing financial liabilities of members, the National Executive Committee in consultation with all registered branches may require fees whenever found necessary to meet the exigencies of the moment of the Association.

4.2 MEMBERSHIP RIGHTS

Subject to other provisions of this constitution, every financial member shall:

Right to attend alumni events, meetings, and any other gatherings organized by the association.
Right to vote in elections for executive officers, board of trustees or other significant decisions as may be specified in the constitution.
Right to run for office or position within the Alumni association, provided they meet the necessary criteria as may be published.
Right to access any resources provided by the association such as newsletter, networking opportunities, newsletters, mentorship programs etc.
Right to use any of the alumni’s facility subject to availability and approval of the executive council.
Right to receive regular updates, reports, and communications regarding the association’s activities, finances, and plans.
Right to connect with fellow alumni for personal, professional, or educational purposes through organized events or digital platforms. Right to seek support from the association in terms of professional development, career guidance, or assistance with alumni-related issues.
Right to propose new initiatives or projects to the association for the improvement of alumni engagement or the advancement of the institution.
Right to suggest amendments to the association’s constitution in line with the formal processes for governance

4.3 MEMBERSHIP

Financial Members of the Alumni Association shall be entitled to membership benefits through their various set groups, provided the following conditions are met:

The member is a financial member at the time of the event.
All necessary documentation (such as death certificate, burial flier, wedding official invitation card, marriage certificate, medical report from a reputable hospital, etc.) is submitted.

4.3.1 BENEFITS

In the unfortunate event of a member's death, the National body, in conjunction with the affected set, shall give a condolence purse of ₦20,000 to the family of the deceased.
In the event of the demise of the spouse or child(ren) of a member, the affected set shall attend with a minimum purse of N10,000.
In case of permanent disability resulting from an accident or illness, the affected set will provide minimum monetary support of ₦10,000 to assist with medical costs and any required rehabilitation.
A minimum of ₦10,000 purse will be provided by the members set to members who are getting married.
In the event of the demise of a teacher of the Seminary if properly invited shall, upon attendance, the National body shall give with a condolence purse of ₦50,000, a wrapper, and a carton of malt.

4.3.2 DUTIES OF MEMBERS

a. Members are obligated to pay the required membership dues, fees, and levies as stipulated by the association from time to time to remain in good.

b. Members must comply with the constitution, bylaws, and any regulations set by the association, adhering to the established governance structure.

c. Members are expected to actively participate in meetings, events, and activities organized by the association, contributing to its growth and success.

d. Members should support the association's objectives, including promoting the values and ideals of the Seminary and fostering the welfare of fellow alumni.

e. Members are expected to uphold and protect the good name and reputation of the association, ensuring that their actions reflect positively on the group.

Members should actively participate in leadership opportunities, including voting in elections, holding office, or serving on committees when possible.

Members are encouraged to network, collaborate, and assist fellow alumni, fostering a strong and supportive alumni community
Members are responsible for maintaining up-to-date contact information with the association and responding to communication from the executive body as needed.
Members should advocate for the alumni association, encouraging other alumni to join and participate in association activities.
Members are encouraged to make financial contributions, share resources, or offer expertise to help advance the association’s initiatives and projects
Members must refrain from using derogatory language, ensure mutual respect in all communications, offer constructive criticism, respect constituted authorities, and avoid any conduct that could bring the association into disrepute.
Perform any other duty that the Association may assign to him from time to time according to the provision of the constitution for the welfare and progress of the association.

4.4 DISCIPLINE OF MEMBERS FOR INFRACTIONS AND MISCONDUCT

There shall be established a disciplinary committee which shall be responsible for enforcing the rules and ensuring the conduct of members aligns with the association’s standards and values. The committee which shall be headed by Vice President 1 shall be charged with the following responsibilities.

Collect evidence and interview witnesses to understand violations.
Assess the severity of infractions based on association rules.
Guarantee a fair process, allowing members to present their case.
Suggest appropriate disciplinary actions based on findings.
Organize hearings for serious infractions to hear both sides.
Inform the member of decisions and potential consequences.
Keep all proceedings confidential to protect privacy.
Document all disciplinary actions and proceedings for reference.
Ensure disciplinary actions are implemented as recommended.
Offer advice on policy and disciplinary trends to the Executive Council.

4.4.1 COMPOSITION OF THE DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE

a. The committee shall made up of members of the association who are appointed by the National Executive Council.

b. The Vice President 1 shall be the head of the Disciplinary Committee, he shall oversee the entire process, ensuring fairness and order.

c. The Committee Members shall investigate cases and participate in hearings and decision-making.

d. The Legal Advisor of the Association shall be a member of the Committee

e. The committee shall be made of Seven (7) members.

4.4.2 DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS

a. A member may receive a verbal warning for minor infractions (e.g., tardiness to meetings, minor disrespect), with an explanation of the issue and a reminder of the association’s standards. Where the behavior continues, a written warning may be issued outlining the misconduct and potential consequences if it persists.

b. Members who fail to meet financial obligations (e.g., unpaid dues) may temporarily lose their membership access rights, benefits, privileges or participation in association events.

c. Where a member disrespects or exhibits disruptive Behavior (e.g., verbal abuse, public disputes) which may potentially lead to a breach of peace and decorum in the association, such member may be reprimanded through a formal/public statement and/or suspended from meetings, events or other association activities for such disruptive behavior.

d. Where a member breaches the ethical conduct of the association by committing offences such as fraud, dishonesty, or any other unethical behavior that could bring the association into disrepute, the Disciplinary Committee may recommend a fine and/or expulsion from the association.

e. Where a member violates the constitution or rules of the association (e.g., failing to comply with regulations or undermining the authority of the governing body), the Disciplinary Committee may suspend the member or revoke their rights and privileges, as deemed appropriate. Probation: A probationary period may be assigned to ensure compliance with the rules in the future.

f. Where a member exhibits insubordination or disrespects constituted leadership (e.g., failure to comply with decisions of the governing body or disrespect towards officers or elders), the member may receive a written or verbal reprimand and may be suspended from meetings, as determined by the Disciplinary Committee.

g. Where a member engages in actions that harm the Association’s reputation (e.g., public scandal or illegal activities), the member shall be expelled, and a public statement may be issued to distance the association from its actions and protect its reputation. If the actions are illegal, the association may pursue legal action or report the matter to the relevant authorities

h. Where a member fails to participate, disengages, or neglects their responsibilities for an extended period, the member may receive a warning, be placed on probation with expectations for renewed involvement, or have their membership privileges revoked for a specified period after multiple warnings.

i. Where a member is dissatisfied with the decision of the Disciplinary Committee, they may submit a written appeal outlining their grievances to the Executive Committee, which shall promptly establish a new committee to review and arbitrate the judgment of the Disciplinary Committee.
